Papers of Alan Cheuse, [manuscript], 1980-1986, bulk 1983-1986.

The collection consists chiefly of Cheuse's personal and professional correspondence, 1983-1986, but also includes publicity, book reviews by Cheuse, miscellaneous short stories of other writers and three of his own: "Daughters of the eighties," "Nights on the Cumberland Plateau," and "The Tennessee Waltz." General topics in the correspondence include readings, reviews, publicity arrangements, his writings and those of his correspondents, publishing efforts and the Bennington College Writing Workshops. Of interest is a letter describing his proposed autobiography, and an anecdote concerning Katherine Anne Porter at a Robert Frost birthday party. Correspondents include Esther Cohen, Robert Draper, George P. Garrett, Herbert Gold, Kent Haruf, William Holinger, James D. Houston, William Kennedy, Bernard Malamud, Richard Marius, Michael Mewshaw, Dale Richardson, Ann Vliet, John Manchip White, and Jonathan Yardley.
