John G. Swearingen letters [manuscript], 1864 and 1930.

In two letters, 1864, John G. Swearingen writes home about his job in Navy ammunition supplies, a possible bombardment of Charleston, S.C., a plan to blow up a railroad bridge, and life after the war. There is also a brochure, ca. 1930, for "The Old Preston House," a Charlottesville rooming house with special rates for University of Virginia students.
