Papers of the Bacon family [manuscript], 1812-1865.

The papers of the Bacon family of Virginia include a letter, 1823 August 18, from Thomas Jefferson to Mr. [Edmund?] Bacon, mentioning Jefferson's illness, crops, and his account with Bacon, and a promissory note, 1813 April 7, from Jefferson to Edmund Bacon. Also included are letters, receipts, and bills of sale pertaining to John Bacon, Richard Bacon, Edmund Bacon, and William Bacon, primarily for the settlement of John Bacon's estate and the purchase of slaves. Two of the letters are from Edmund Bacon to William J. Bacon, 1864 June 4, and 1865 March 14, and discuss the family, management of William's farm during his absence, crops, slaves running off to join the Union Army and other Civil War news.
