Andrew Dreselly was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Bavarian immigrant parents. In 1907, he was apprenticed to Johann Kirchmayer at W. F. Ross Co., becoming foreman of the woodcarving and modeling shop upon Kirchmayer's retirement in 1921.
