Papers of a naval engineer from Salem, MA, later became chief engineer of the Salem Water Works. Collection contains numerous sea journals and diaries while aboard the SS Great Republic, the Alaska, the Wabash and other naval vessels.

The Alaska Steamship Company, incorporated in 1894, shipped freight and passengers between Seattle and southeast Alaska, ca. 1901-1950.
