Frederick H. Koch letter to Dear Art, and publications, 1940-1943.

The collection contains one letter. Koch writes to Dear Art [Arthur C. Cloetingh], professor of drama at Pennsylvania State University, 8 May 1940, sending a copy of a speech. The letter is typescript with the letterhead of the Department of Dramatic Art at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The collection also contains three publications. Included is a reprint from the Durham herald-sun (on sheet, 60 x 23 cm., folded to 15 x 23 cm.), 31 Mar. 1940, with caption title "First state theatre celebrating 21st birthday," featuring two articles by R.W. Madry and Walter Spearman concerning Koch and the drama week at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; "Drama in the South" (14 p. ; 24 cm.), a booklet by Koch published in 1940 containing an address delivered in the Playmakers Theatre at Chapel Hill, N.C., on 5 Apr. 1940; and "The Carolina playmakers, twenty-fifth anniversary" (78 p. : ill. ; 27 cm.), edited by Archibald Henderson and published in 1943 as The Carolina play-book, vol. 16, no. 1, to the memory of Thomas Wolfe and featuring an article by Koch on Wolfe. The latter two items are signed by Koch. Attached inside the front cover of "The Carolina playmakers, twenty-fifth anniversary" is an offprint (p. 10 is blank) by Koch called "Towards a new folk theatre" (11 p. ; 23 cm.), reprinted from the Quarterly journal of the North Dakota University and signed by Koch.
