During the period covered by this volume: Maybank served on the Armed Services Committee (1944-1954), and acted as chairman of the Banking and Currency Committee (1949-1952); in 1949, he sheperded through the Senate the Banking and Currency Housing Act, which stimulated home construction and included slum clearance and public housing projects.
