Nathaniel Lyon Estate papers, 1874-1915.

The collection was created by New Haven Probate Judge Livingston W. Cleaveland who was assigned administrator of General Nathaniel Lyon's estate around 1910. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence regarding the settlement of the estate among Cleaveland, the numerous heirs of the Lyon estate, the Law Offices of Frederic A. Fenning & Brainard W. Parker of Washington D.C., Eastford Probate Judge John M. Tatem, and the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company of Baltimore, MD. The papers are arranged, as found, in reverse chronological order. Most of the letters seem to be original copies typed on onionskin paper which are hard to read since the ink is faded. The collection also includes newspaper clippings related to the questionable death and burial of General Nathaniel Lyon (1818-1861), legal documents and notes.

0.25 linear feet (1/2 box).
