General description of the collection: This is a study by the United States Army, European Theater of Operations, Office of the Chief Quartermaster titled Q.M. POL Plan for Continental Operation. It was published circa 1944 and is a plan for the petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL) supply on continental Europe after D-Day. It covers base closures in the United Kingdom, tonnages, depots, salvage, truckheads, railheads, personnel numbers and testing laboratories. It has a section on responsibilities for the POL during combat, such as, loading and unloading, locations of gasoline supply companies, lists of equipment and spare parts under procurement and plans for the civilian requirements of occupied territory during the first phase of the operation. Report also describes the way to package selected supplies for best results and maximum capacity and maintenance of airborne and isolated units by air.
