Pughe Papers, 1910-1984.

The Pughe Papers are the combined papers of George Arthur Pughe and his son, James Moffat Pughe. The Pughes were attorneys in Craig, Colorado, and their papers cover the years between 1910-1984. The collection contains correspondence between the years 1923-1953, financial records, personal records, and legal and subject files, as well as information on the Colorado Water Conservation Board concerning both George and James Pughe. The Pughe Papers contain a majority of records regarding the Colorado Water Conservation Board from the 1940-1980. The papers are arranged into ten sections: four sections for George A. Pughe, three sections for James M. Pughe, one section for Photographs and Films, one section for Publications and a tenth section for maps. The George Pughe records are split into four categories: I. Personal Records, II. Correspondence 1914-1959, III. Legal/Subject Files 1910-1960, and IV. Colorado River Water Conservation Board 1940-1950. The James M. Pughe records are split into three categories: I. Personal Records, II. Legal/Subject Files 1954-1972, and III. Colorado River Water Conservation Board 1960-1980.

George A. Pughe (1884-1960), born in Denver and raised on a farm east of Longmont, starred in football at the University of Colorado where he graduated with a law degree in 1909. He located in the frontier community of Craig on July 16, 1909. Craig had just incorporated the year before and Moffat County had yet to be separated from Routt County.
