Theodore R. Milton collection, 1942-1990.

This collection consists of correspondence, numerous photographs, flight records, and speeches, dealing with General Milton's career. Of significant importance to this collection are the personal diaries of German general officers which discuss Fortress Stalingrad and the German air transport mission during World War II, specifically from November 1942 through February 1943 and January through February 1943.

Theodore R. Milton was born in 1915, enlisted in the Army in 1934, and graduated from West Point in 1940. He earned his pilot wings with the Army Air Corps in 1941 and from 1943 to the end of World War II, he served with the Eighth Air Force in England flying the B-17. After additional tours in the United States and Europe, Milton was promoted to brigadier general in 1957 and named Commander of the Fifth Air Force in Japan.
