Wilford Berry execution files, 1990-1999.

This series contains various types of communications and correspondence between both Governors George Voinovich and Bob Taft and their respective constituents concerning the execution of Wilford Berry. The majority of the correspondence pertains to the potential commutation of Berry's execution and giving him life imprisonment. There was very little correspondence in support of the death penalty and his subsequent execution. Also contained in this series are Berry's case files, petitions, applications for appeals, clemency files and other legal files that document Berry's trial and appeal process through the terms of both Governors Voinovich and Taft. Other documents housed in this series relate to letters received by the Governor's Office in support of clemency for Wilford Berry from constituents throughout Ohio and the rest of the country including various religious orders, as well as letters from international organizations and sources.
