David Gouverneur Burnet (1788-1870) was born in Newark, New Jersey. About 1817 he moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana, and in 1831 to Texas. Gail Borden, Jr. (1801-1874) was a surveyor, inventor, newspaperman, businessman and agriculturalist. He was born in Norwich, New York, and moved to Texas in 1829.
