The original campus plans for the University of Florida at Gainesville were developed by the firm of Edwards & Walter. Edwards & Walter were contracted to design and layout the campus buildings in 1905. Additional plans were developed by the firm's successor, Edward and Sayward. Ida and Lloyd Morgan were the children of Daniel Lewis Morgan and Ida Riddle Morgan. Lloyd was born in 1880 in Clarke County, Alabama. The Morgans moved to Norwalk, Florida, around 1883 and it was there that Ida was born in 1885. Both Ida and Lloyd attended the Florida Agricultural College at Lake City. In 1851, the Florida State Legislature authorized the all-male Seminary West of the Suwannee on the property of the Florida Institute in Tallahassee. The first classes were held in 1857 and in 1858 females were admitted in a seperate department called the Female Institute which operated until 1882 when the Seminary became coeducational.
