Engraved portrait of Samuel Johnson, undated, and signed note from Johnson to an unidentified correspondent, dated June 17, 1775. In the note, Johnson refers to "this dreadful attack" and concludes, "You will do what you can, and I hope soon to come and help you."

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was one of the leading literary figures of eighteenth-century England.
