Thomas Forsyth Hunt was born in Ridott, Illinois in 1862. He received his B.A. (1884), M.A. (1892), and Ph.D. (1903) in Agriculture from the University of Illinois. He began his career in 1885 as an assistant to the state entomologist of Illinois.
