William Hammatt Davis (1879-1964) was born in Bangor, Maine, the son of Owen Warren Davis and Abigail Gould. After graduating from high school in 1896, he moved to Washington, D.C., to work for his brother, A. G. Davis, in the patent department of General Electric. While in Washington, D.C., he attended the Corcoran Scientific School and graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 1901.
