Walter Washington De Lacy was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on February 22, 1819, the son of William and Eliza de Lacy. At the age of fifteen he entered Mount St. Mary's Catholic College in Emmetsburg, Maryland, and graduated in 1838. Nathanial Pitt Langford was born in Westmoreland, New York, in 1832; he came to St. Paul in 1854. Samuel Thomas Hauser (1833-1914), born in Kentucky, moved to Missouri in 1853 and became an engineer.
