Mrs. Jackson was born Sarah May Webster on 27 November 1863 to Aaron and Sarah (Yantis) Webster in Thurston County, WA. Aaron Webster crossed the plains by ox team from Mt. Pleasant, IA arriving in Oregon City, Oregon Territory in the fall of 1852. He settled in the Skookumchuck Valley by 1854. In 1860 Aaron Webster married Sarah Yantis, daughter of Judge Frank Yantis, a pioneer of the area. Sarah May, who became known as "May", was one of three children.
