French Revolution pamphlets on "citoyenneté," 1789-1800.

Speeches, reports, minutes of meetings, songs, poems, plays, hymns, fictitious dialogues, a comedy, and a secular catechism concerning "citoyenneté," the concept of what it is to be a good citizen, including the rights, duties, obligations, expectations, and beliefs involved. Spanning culture and politics, "citoyenneté" was an evolving concept and subject to much debate. The pamphlets, which include much material from the Directory (1795-1799), discuss "citoyenneté" in relation to topics including education, public political instruction, civic culture, revolutionary festivals, martyrs to the Revolution, and presenting a republican view of French history. Authors represented include Jacques Louis David, Bertrand Barère, and Léonard Bourdon.
