Francis Charmes letters, 1880-1897.

Nine letters by Charmes and 5 by his brother Xavier, another government official employed in the ministry of public instruction, all to unidentified friends, colleagues and clients. Letters deal with social and business matters; Francis Charmes also describes his reaction to political developments within the ministry of foreign affairs and the Chamber of Deputies, and Xavier Charmes describes his efforts to distribute a senator's latest publication and to obtain help from the library for the senator's research. Francis Charmes's letter of Jan. 23, 1884 also gives a detailed description of the doctor's treatment for an abdominal abscess afflicting Xavier.
