Kingsley family papers, [ca. 1857]-1951.

Personal and professional papers of Bath, New York, lawyers Charles Freeman Kingsley and his son Carter Robie Kingsley; records pertaining to their work in the western land mortgage business; and papers of various members of the Kingsley and Bull families. Correspondence, accounts, briefs, legal documents and other papers pertaining to Charles Freeman Kingsley's work as a claims agent for Civil War veterans; his handling of civil suits, bankruptcy cases, and others; his conduct of a mercantile collection business; and his activities as legal counsel for many local families. Includes papers (1827-60) of the Bull family, papers (1808-1902) of Abner Case, papers (1850-93) of J. Van Dusen, Kingsley's personal letters, and miscellaneous family correspondence. Also, business and personal correspondence, photographs, printed matter, and other papers chiefly concerning the continuation of Kingsley's law practice by his son, Carter Robie, and in the western land mortgage business; includes papers relating to the liquidation of the local legal and western land business of Kingsley's uncle Reuben Robie, papers (1910-30) relating to the investment of trust funds in corporation stocks, and letters relating to Kingsley's membership in Sigma Phi. There are also papers of Charles Kingsley's wife, Mary Robie Kingsley, and their sons: Charles LaRue Kingsley's papers relate to his career with a law firm in New York City; James R. Kingsley's papers also relate to his legal practice in New York City and include diaries, social and family correspondence, and photographs. Papers relating to the farm in Hammondsport, New York, include a lease of part of the farm to Glenn Curtis for experiments in seaplane design. Carter R. Kingsley's papers include: 20 family deeds; early history of Hammondsport, N.Y., 1922 from newspaper; request, 1918, concerning operation of knitting machine; a military book listing all men of Bath, N.Y. liable for draft giving name, age, occupation, 1862; a personal cash book of Nichols family, 1851-1855; legal papers of the case of George W. Tolbert, Plaintiff vs. Maurice C. Trumbell, et al, Defendants, Bath, N.Y., an injunction granted May 25, 1904; 6 Bills for the books of the Davenport Library (1904-1909); 5 bond offerings, New York, N.Y., 1926; miscellanea of deeds, bonds, letters etc.; a certificate for 550 shares of capital stock in the Sybil Gold Mining Co., Hornellsville, N.Y., March 30, 1899.
