Henry Walton (1768-1844) was the son of Jacob and [?] (Cruger) Walton, a prominent New York City family. Henry Walton studied law with Aaron Burr and in 1790 removed to Ballston Spa, New York and then Albany, New York. He married three times, the second to Mrs. Mathilda (Cruger) Yates by whom he had seven children including the Ithaca artist Henry Walton (1806-1865), and [Willaim] Henry Walton (1808-?) who is represented in this collection.
