Nathan R. Herendeen oral history, 1968.

In this interview, Nathan R. Herendeen discusses his experiences with the Empire State Sugar Company. Topics include: separate sugar beet field experiments conducted by the New York State College of Agriculture and the Empire State Sugar Company; his assessment of the qualifications and competence of the Empire field staff and the farmers who produced the first commercial crop of sugar beets; Agway's assistance in getting farmers to sign contracts with the refinery; problems encountered during the first growing season with obtaining machinery and reliable production recommendations; PepsiCo's machinery lease plan; and his impressions of the reasons why many fieldmen left Empire State Sugar Company between 1966-1967. Also included are his impressions of Mark Barrett.
