Joseph F. Metz oral history, 1965.

In this interview Joseph F. Metz discusses his observations of the New York State sugar beet industry. Topics include: the New York State College of Agriculture's contributions to the New York State sugar beet industry, including the establishment of field plots, and the determination of cultural practices and economic feasibility; his observations of the coordination between the Redevelopment Area Organization (RAO) of Cayuga County (N.Y.), the college, Cooperative Extension, and sugar beet farmers; and his impressions of the RAO and the political and economic motivations for procuring a sugar allotment for Cayuga County from the USDA. Also included as an addendum is a five page letter from Charles E. Palm (Dean of the New York State College of Agriculture) to Lawrence Myers (Director of the Sugar Division for the USDA) dated December 10, 1962. Also included are his impressions of Paul W. Lattimore, Henry Stack, James B. Smith, Paul Aron, Charles Lavis, and Dewey Stewart.
