R. Miller Stanton oral history, 1964.

In this interview, R. Miller Stanton discusses his personal history and shares his observations of New York State canneries. Topics include: his job as a youth working for Cohocton Canning Company and for Mandeville and King Seed Company; his studies at Rochester Business Institute; his responsibilities as office manager for the New York Canners, Inc. (later the Snider Packing Corporation) including bookkeeping, field contracting, managing plant, and packing peas; his experiences packing meat in 1934 on government contract using animals slaughtered because of the drought in the midwest; packing frozen peas for the Frosted Foods Division of General Foods; making cream style corn; company personnel policies; how changes in cultural practices, harvest machinery and processing techniques improved the quality of processed peas.
