Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation land tract records and property maps, circa 1885-2009.

This collection consists primarily of 49 rolled sheet maps of land, underground coal workings, mine shafts, and towns owned and operated by the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation in central Pennsylvania. Among the cartographic materials, there are also digital copies on six DVDs of the Heilwood rolled mining maps; a CD and its printout of a computer-assisted design (CAD) copy of the rolled mining map for the Upper Freeport Coal Seam; and a late nineteenth-century map of surveyed routes of the Beech Creek, Clearfield and Southwestern Railroad, which was run by the corporation. Fourteen historic photographic prints document buildings, coal mining facilities, and work scenes in the company town at Rossiter, Pennsylvania. There are also eight photocopies of land tract records for Barr, Gazzam, and Heilwood, Pennsylvania. In addition to the aforementioned towns, Amsbry, Ansonville, Clymer, Cresson, Dixonville, and Gallitzin are among the Pennsylvania locales represented on maps in this collection.

The Clearfield Bituminous Coal Company was chartered by Pennsylvania Governor Henry M. Hoyt on 27 December 1882. In 1886 it reorganized as the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation and operated in central Pennsylvania until 1953.
