Frederick Christian Schang, Jr. was born December 15, 1893 in New York City. In 1915 he graduated from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. One of his early positions was as a reporter for the New York Tribune. He then worked for the Metropolitan Music Bureau, which later merged with other agencies in 1930 to form the Columbia Concerts Corporation (name later changed to Columbia Artists Management, Inc., or CAMI).
