John Lloyd architectural records, 1914-1981.

This collection comprises drawings, photographs and files related to projects of John Lloyd & Associates (domestic, institutional, commercial, ecclesiastical) and also to Lloyd's work as consulting or supervising architect for a number of projects of other architects. The collection contains materials related to Lloyd's restorations of and alterations to a number of Philadelphia houses of historical significance, including: Solitude, built in 1784-1785 for John Penn; Poe House, built ca. 1841, residence of Edgar Allen Poe from 1842 to 1844; Eakins House, residence of Thomas Eakins; and Abercrombie House, built ca. 1759, renovated as the Perelman Antique Toy Museum. Materials related to Lloyd's work as consulting architect to the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority and the Old Philadelphia Redevelopment Corporation and his work on the Philadelphia Historical Commission are also found. Prints of architectural drawings of the following architects are found in this collection: W. Nelson Anderson; John Wm. Keyes; Edward E. Hendrickson; George Spencer Morris and Richard Erskine.

John Frederick Lloyd was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania and trained in architecture at Pennsylvania State University. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. In 1960, Lloyd became the supervising architect for the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority in the Society Hill section of the city. He founded his firm, John Lloyd & Associates, at this time.
