Wilfred Hudson Osgood, (1875-1947) was born on December 8, 1875, in Rochester, New Hampshire. He studied at Stanford University, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1899; and receiving his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1918. He started his career as a biologist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1897, where he continued to work until 1909.
