The collection contains preliminary and working drawings for approximately 230 structures of all types, primarily in Minnesota, and including 160 private residences. Drawings include those of the Lowell Inn (Stillwater MN, 1927), town halls in Alden and Tower MN (1939), hospitals in Benson, Mora, Staples, and Willmar, Minnesota, the president's house of Macalester College in St. Paul, several high schools and numerous churches. Also included are some business records, personal correspondence, photographs and a scrapbook, several of Ingemann's published articles and a copy of his book, Minor Architecture of Worcestershire.

William Ingemann was born in St. Paul MN and educated at the University of Minnesota (1915-1922) and the American Academy in Rome. Early in his career, he was associated with architects Cass Gilbert (in 1921 and 1922) and Electus Litchfield (1922-1926) in New York City. In 1922, Ingemann opened an office in St. Paul. In 1927, Ingemann married Dorothy Brink, an artist and an architect, who became the renderer in the Ingemann office from 1927 to 1936. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWI...
