The collection contains plans, renderings, photographs and other materials for hundreds of commissions by John H. Howe. In addition the collection includes a one-cassette oral history by Howe, recorded over two days in 1989, on which Howe discusses his life and career during and after his service with Wright.

John H. Howe was born in Evanston, Ill. After graduation from Evanston High School, Howe joined the architectural practice of Frank Lloyd Wright, becoming a charter member of the Taliesin Fellowship and an apprentice to Wright. He remained with Wright until the latter's death in 1959, working most of that time as chief draftsman.
