Biochemist, 1910-1996. Lowry received a degree in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1932 and in 1937 received both a doctorate in physiological chemistry and a medical degree from the University of Chicago. Lowry joined the faculty of the Washington University School of Medicine in 1947, serving as chair of the department of pharmacology, 1947-1976; dean, 1955-58; and professor emeritus of molecular biology and pharmacology, 1975-1996.
