John F. Newsom papers, 1894-1923, bulk 1894-1902.

Collection consists of correspondence, a letterpress copybook containing Newsom's outgoing correspondence and newspaper clippings, drawings, and financial records. Included in the Indiana University series are records dating from Newsom's tenure as treasurer of the organization as well as information on geological digs conducted as part of Newsom's work with the Indiana Geological Survey. The bulk of the correspondence in the collection comes from Newsom's wife, Adelaide Perry.

John Flesher Newsom earned his master's and doctorate degrees in geology at Stanford from 1898 to 1910, when he resigned to do full time exploratory work for mining companies. He died unexpectedly in October 1928. John Branner Newsom, son of J.F. Newsom, earned his a.b. in geology at Stanford in 1922 and his engineer's degree in 1924.
