Arthur G. Scholes was born April 26, 1874 in Three Oaks, Michigan. He moved to Townsend (Mont.) in 1904 where he started the Broadwater Creamery. In 1913, Governor Samuel V. Stewart appointed Scholes the first state dairy commissioner, at which time he moved to Helena. He established the Helena Creamery in 1916 and operated it in partnership with John M. Schmidt until his retirement in 1928. Mr. Scholes married Anna F. Wilson on October 6, 1930. He died on August 13, 1953 in Helena....

Samuel V. Stewart was born on August 2, 1872, in Monroe County, Ohio, the son of John W. and Maria (Carle) Stewart. The family moved to Kansas about 1883. After attending the Kansas Normal College, Stewart taught school for a few years, and then graduated from the University of Kansas law school in 1898. He was admitted to the Montana bar shortly after his graduation. He practiced law in Virginia City. Stewart was elected Montana governor in 1912 and re-elected in 1916. ...
