Richard Maltby (1914-1991) was a composer, arranger, conductor, trumpeter, and bandleader. Born in Chicago, he studied music from a young age and wrote his first arrangement when he was around 13. By his late teens he was playing and arranging for jazz and dance bands. He briefly studied music at Northwestern University before leaving to play music full-time.
