This series comprises records of various subjects related to the work of the Immanuel Deaconess Motherhouse and Training School. These records date from 1892-1975 and include minutes, agenda, reports, publications, correspondence, orders of service, promotional pamphlets, leaflets, brochures, news articles, circular letters, calendars, postcards, scrapbooks, posters, and bulletin covers. Subject matter for the records includes the Bethesda Deaconesses and their transfer to the Immanuel Deaconess Motherhouse; biennial deaconess conferences, the committee to study the diaconate; modernization of the Augustana diaconate; and the merger of the Immanuel Motherhouse into the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America. Other records include registers of deaconesses and deaconess students, information on various departments of the diaconate, including the communion wafer department and paramentics. Box 5 contains two undated scrapbooks of newspaper clippings focusing on the Rev. E.A. Fogelstrom and his work with the Immanuel Deaconess Institute. These clippings were donated to the archives at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, by a Miss Fogelstrom. This was most likely Alma Fogelstrom, Pastor Fogelstrom's daughter and herself an Immanuel deaconess.
