Doram-Rowe Family Collection, 1829-1975 (Bulk 1829-1901).

The Doram-Rowe Family Collection, donated by Mrs. Viola Gross, currently consists of original documents pertaining to this African Amerian family from Danville, Kentucky. The collection includes land records, depositions, indentures, receipts, court records, original poetry, and periodical publications and newspapers. The bulk of the collection 's date range is from 1829-1901. Many of the items provide evidence for the family's acquisition of land in the town of Danville and in Boyle County along the Dix River. Additionally, there are a number of letters and envelopes bearing the "Adams Express Company" imprint from soldiers in the U.S.C.T. 114th Regiment. There are also letters from Robert Doram who served in West Texas as a "Buffalo Soldier" in the 1870s.

Dennis Doram, Jr. was born ca. 1797. Son of Dennis (Sr.) and Lydia Barbee Doram, was freed at the age of 2 month by the will of General Thomas Barbee. In his will the General stated that all the Doram children were to be taught to read and write, and the boys were to be taught arithmetic.
