The album contains 403 prints (381 with assigned numbers) mounted on [294] p. Some images are in more than one state. The majority of the subjects are Edinburgh personalities, though various royalty and heads of state both contemporary and historical are included. Subjects are identified by an ms. catalog with numerical references (the paper of which bears a watermark date of 1805) and a typewritten index, listing subjects alphabetically with cross references to their assigned number in the album. Both items are housed in a pocket attached to the front paste-down. A pocket attached to the back paste-down houses two catalogs both printed in Edinburgh by Hugh Paton in 1836. The contents of these catalogs replicate that of the ms. catalog to some degree.
