Leonard Cohen was born in 1934 in Montreal. He attended McGill University, where he formed a country-western trio called the Buckskin Boys at age 17. He also began writing poetry and was part of the local literary scene. His first collection of poetry, Let Us Compare Mythologies, was published in 1956 while he was still an undergraduate.
