Astrid Lindgren was born November 14, 1907, in Vimmerby, Sweden. She wrote her first book in 1944. She was best known for her children's books, especially her stories about a fearless red-headed girl named Pippi Longstocking. She wrote Pippi Longstocking for her daughter's tenth birthday.
