John McCormack, tenor, operatic performer, recitalist, and recording artist. Born in 1884 in Athlone, Ireland, and trained in operatics begining in 1903, McCormack rose to prominence in the US. He became an American citizen in 1917 and was made a papal count by Pope Pius XI in 1928. Edward Johnson, tenor and administrator, was born in Guelph, ON, 22 Aug. 1878. He sang in Europe (as "Edoardo di Giovanni") from 1912-1919, and in North America from 1919-1935.
