Letter from Alexander Dunlop, Montreal, written to his sister, Mrs. Cathcart, of Auchendrane, Ayrshire, June 15, 1827. 1827.

Describes the journey from York, accompanied by Margaret and his friend Galt, through the wilderness to the new city of Guelph, five weeks old. They stayed with the Hon. William Dickson near the town of Galt for a few days and travelled up the Grand River or the Ouse to Waterloo, Guelph, and the Township of Dumfries. Discusses the site of Guelph, early street names, building of houses, description of trees and land, and reason for the choice of site.
