After obtaining his Bachelor's degree from OAC in 1951, Herman Tiessen worked for one year in the Fruit and Vegetable Branch of the Ontario Department of Agriculture. He earned his Master's degree from Michigan State University in 1953 and his Ph.D. in 1955. Later that year, he joined the faculty of the Department of Horticulture at OAC. He died on Dec. 10, 1987. Jones, the son of a Baptist clergyman, was born in Schoolcraft, Michigan on June 9, 1859. He attended Brown University for two years, then transferred to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and graduated from MIT in 1882. He came to Minneapolis in 1883, where he established an architectural practice in which he remained for the rest of his career.
