Connon was the son of inventor and photographer Thomas Connon. Connon colaborated with his father throughout most of his life in their photography business. After his father's death in 1899 Connon sold the business and devoted himself to historical research. He was the author of "A History of Elora". Records include: genealogical papers, correspondence, newspaper articles and business papers.

Born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Connon came to Canada in 1852. He invented the film roller in 1881, but his idea was appropriated by an employer of a Toronto supply dealer to whom he had written proposing his idea. These ealier records concern his store in Elora, known as Connon and Henderson (1860-1861). Also includes family papers and accounts.
