Amy Loveman was born in New York City in 1881. She graduated from Barnard College in 1901. Loveman was the first editor of the Barnard Bulletin. She was one of the founding editors of the "Saturday Review of Literature", established in 1924. When the Book-of-the-Month Club was established in 1926, Loveman was chairperson of the reading department and in 1951 became editor.
