Consists chiefly of responses to form letters sent by Mrs. Jones to faculty emeriti and alumnae requesting their personal reminiscences for a book on JMU history. Includes signed correspondence from JMU's first president, Julian A. Burruss to the institution's first enrolled student, Eleanor Beatrice Marable, dated 1909; personal correspondence from Dean of the College, Walter J. Gifford to Ms. Marable; notes and drafts of a speech given by Ms. Marable on Founder's Day, 1957, entitled "Senator Keezell's Contribution to our College." Folder 5 consists of one draft and one final copy of an autobiographical speech by JMU President Ronald E. Carrier; statements from JMU Vice President Douglas T. Brown, and Professors Robin McNallie and Richard Whitman, regarding the controversy between Dr. Carrier and the Faculty Senate over JMU's curriculum in the 1990s; a brief newspaper clipping about Dr. Carrier; and notes from an interview with Dr. Carrier's son, Mike, recording his reminiscences of growing up on campus at the president's residence, Hillcrest House.

Nancy Bondurant Jones began working for JMU in 1989 after retiring from teaching English at Turner Ashby High School. She set out as social events coordinator for then-president Ronald E. Carrier and his wife, Edith, and later started writing Dr. Carrier's speeches and other documents as requested. Ronald E. Carrier served as the fourth president of James Madison University from 1971 until 1998. Dr. Carrier brought many new ideas to Madison College. Under his tenure, Madison College grew from a prominently female institution holding 4,000 students to a co-ed university with 14,000 students.
