George Essex Evans was a poet, journalist and public servant, noted for his patriotic poems. He was mainly based in Queensland. From the description of Letter [manuscript]. 1900 February. (Libraries Australia). WorldCat record id: 223434291 Poet and journalist, who emigrated to Queensland from London in 1881. He farmed on the Darling Downs, taught in private schools and later took up journalism. He lived for many years in Toowoomba. Mary Ann Owen was his mother's maiden name...
