Born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 26, 1856, George Bernard Shaw was the only son and third and youngest child of George Carr and Lucinda Elizabeth Gurly Shaw. Ronald Bryden, who devoted much of his professional life to writing and teaching about the theatre, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad in 1927. He attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto. After graduating with a bachelor of arts in English language and literature in 1950, he moved to England and attended Cambridge University.
