John Manifold, poet, was born in Melbourne and educated at Cambridge University. He joined the Communist Party, and returned to Australia in 1949. He moved to Brisbane, and established the Realist Writers group in 1950. He collected Australian folksongs and published a study on them. From the description of Papers.
